Choose a digital photograph.
1a. For this tutorial copy this photo of Portland to your hard
drive
1b.Open it in Photoshop.

2a. Copy this template to your hard drive.
2b.Open it in Photoshop.
Resize template, depending on photo used.
3a. Click on Image-Image Size
Change width to 8 inches.
3b. Save template, as a PSD, call it Portland-m.psd
|

4. Make a pattern. For this tutorial we will
use six sections.
(The other colors will not be used in this tutorial) 4-1.
Click on the green section with the Magic wand tool.
4-2. Right Click, choose Laver via Copy
4-3. Drag the green section onto portland.jpg photo.

4-4. Change Layer 1 to 40% Opacity.
4-5. Press Ctrl-T to move and rotate pattern over the section you
want to use.
4-6. Press Enter to accept. |

4-7. Hold down the Ctrl key while you click
on Layer 1, on the layer panel. This will select the wedge shape.
4-8. With wedge shape still selected. Click on Background layer,
on the layer panel.
4-9. Copy using Ctrl-c. This puts a copy of the pattern on the clipboard.

First Section
5a.Click on portland-m.psd
5b. Use Ctrl-v to paste 1st section onto portland-m.psd
(You should see a section of the Portland photo)
5c. Close Portland.jpg

6. Ctrl-t to move 1st wedge into place
7. Ctrl-v to paste in 2nd wedge
|

8. Click Edit-Transform-Flip Horizontal
9. Ctrl-t to move 2nd wedge into place |

10. Ctrl-v to paste in 3rd wedge
11. Click Edit-Transform-Flip Horizontal |

12. Ctrl-t to move 3rd wedge into place
13. On the Layers panel, click on the eye next to Background Layer,
to make it invisible
14. Press Shift-Ctrl-E to Merge Visable |

Create Second Half
15. Drag the Layer 3 copy to the Create New Layer icon at the
bottom of the background layer.
(You will now have two halfs, one on top of the other)
16. Click Edit-Transform-Flip Vertical |
|
17. Drag 2nd half into place with Ctrl-t.
18. Ctrl-e to merge down. |

19. Mandala is now complete |
